It had been a long time coming. Mix strong reviews, a star-studded cast and ratings that amazingly only got better each week, and it was bound to happen — FOX’s Empire tops this week’s social TV engagement rankings, besting the rest of a crowded field to take its place atop General Sentiment’s TV engagement report for the week of March 2-8.
The show had been in the top five since its premiere, but as momentum built for the prestige drama, it slowly crept past strong contenders like The Voice, ABC’s TGIT trio and American Idol. Only standing in its way the last two weeks was ABC’s The Bachelor, and finally Empire was able to take that last final leap — and it wasn’t close. Empire separated itself strongly from the rest of the top five, which is nicely occupied by an episode of The Bachelor and three episodes of NBC’s darling The Voice.
The remaining two TGIT shows fill up spots No. 6 and No. 7, while ABC also deposits strong showings from Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. at No. 8 and Repeat After Me at No. 10. The 100 is The CW’s top charting show.
On cable, the top four was unchanged. As far as debuts, The Following’s season debut landed it squarely in the top 25, while CBS’s latest spinoff, CSI: Cyber debuted well at No. 12. Revenge returned from a midseason break to land just inside the top 25 at No. 24. Download the full report below!
